Agile Increment Manager - Help!
Our easy step by step guide to help you manage your epics across roadmap increments
Set up and Overview
Once you have installed AIM, you will see the link to this view on the left navigation bar:
Once clicked you will see all of your open Epics within the Jira Project in this view. By default all Epics will appear in the ‘Later’ increment.
Both ‘Later’ and ‘Next’ increment are collapsed by default to give each user maximum focus on the current ‘Now’ increment.
Simply click the side arrow icon to expand the increment.
Managing Epics
You can manage your Epics across increments with the AIM product. You can also order Epics within an increment, add T-shirt sizing and track progress.
Moving Epics within an increment
It is good to order the Epics aligned to priority. To do this, hover over the Epic row and once the hand icon appears, simply drag the Epic within the Increment to the desired place
Moving Epics across an Increment
To move a single Epic or multiple Epics across from one increment to another, click the checkbox next to the Epic
and a button on the right hand side becomes enabled
Click this button and you are presented with a variety of options:
Send to Top
Move to Now
Move to Next
(the move increment action is relative to the increment selected, in the case the increment selected to move Epics from is the Later increment)
In the below example, clicking to move the Epics to the ‘Next’ increment will move them to the bottom of the Next increment.
Adding T Shirt Size to each Epic
You can add a T-shirt size to an Epic as an inline function within AIM. Simply click the ‘(edit)’ wording under the heading ‘T-Shirt Size’ and add in the sizing required. We recommend S, M, L, XL for simplicity.
Click the tick icon to save or the X icon to cancel.
Once saved, the sizing will appear on the AIM view and also be attached to the Epic details across Jira.
Adding more information to an Epic
To add more information to an Epic or to add more stories, issues, tasks, etc, simply right click on the Epic key link and select ‘Open in new tab’
This will open the standard Jira Epic screen and from here you can manage your Epic as you normally would.
Visualising progress of an Epic
Once you have some sub work attached to an Epic (i.e issues, stories, tasks, bugs) you will start to see them in the AIM view
The number of issues is captured and if you hove over the progress bar, you can view a count of:
Total issues
Completed
In Progress
Not Started
Visualising progress of an Increment
Its important to see how the increment is progressing, so there is an Increment progress bar above the ‘Now’ increment
Simply hover over the bar to see the details of work completed, in progress and not started.
Closing an Increment
To close the ‘Now’ increment, click the ‘close increment’ button in the top right corner.
Any Epics that do not have the status of ‘Done’ will need their status updated to ‘Done’ or if they are not Done, moved into either the ‘Next’ or ‘Later’ increment. Once the increment is closed, the following message appears:
All of the Epics in the ‘Next’ increment automatically move into the ‘Now’ increment, leaving the ‘Next’ increment empty and ready for the next priority items to be planned in.
